How, Why, Who...

The field of policing has needed to be injected with more evidence-based practices for some time. While researchers have been studying these practices for now close to twenty years it has not been commonly included in agencies strategic planning. Introducing or even increasing their use of evidence-based policing. This has driven me to the creation of the How-To guide for evidence-based policing.

My own history includes eleven years of experience in law enforcement as a crime analyst and the supervisor of the division of crime analysis. Seeing how evidence-based practices can assist officers in their various pursuits has shown me how much it is needed in the field. My project will educate users of the history of what it means to be evidence-based and how researchers use the term. They will be introduced to the father of evidence-based policing, Lawrence Sherman, in a video that explains evidence-based policing. This history will help users understand how and why evidence-based policing can assist them.

My project will cover current research and show the various ways that practices and policies can be implemented to assist officers with strategies and plans to reduce crime and run their agency efficiently. The American Society of Evidence-Based Policing was a contributor to my research on how information is presented to officers. I have worked with the Society on several different types of projects to implement evidence-based policing in the agency where I worked. My project will also test the knowledge that is gained from the use of the website and hopefully instruct users on how to implement these practices in their own agency.

This site is geared towards police administrations and people in positions to influence or make changes in policy, practices, tactics, and overall culture of an agency. The research that is gathered on this site will assist the user with making the appropriate changes, understanding the potential

The website is up and running currently and I have shared it with some law enforcement contacts already, they are excited to see the final product.
